Muhith for verifying information in filing investigative reports

DHAKA, August 2, 2018 (BSS) – Highlighting the need for checking and
rechecking information of news stories, Finance Minister AMA Muhith has said
journalists should verify information while filing reports related to
corruption.

“The standard of economic reporting in Bangladesh is good. It is important
to verify information when investigative or corruption-related stories are
filed,” said Muhith said while speaking at the ‘ERF Best Reporting Award
2018’ distribution ceremony here on Wednesday.

Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) president Saiful Islam Dilal presided over
the ceremony. Jury board chairman Manwar Hossain and ERF general secretary
Ziaur Rahman, among others, spoke on the occasion.

“While writing corruption-related reports, it is important to know rightly
about the person concerned, and inform him or her about it,” he added.

The Finance Minister distributed best reporting award among 11 journalists.

Award recipient journalists are Obaidullah Roni of the Samokal, Fakhrul
Islam Harun of the Prothom Alo, Business editor Sujoy Mahajan, reporter
Shubhangkar Karmakar, Sohel Parvez of The Daily Star, Jasim Uddin Harun of
The Financial Express, Raju Ahmed of GTV, Abdul Quayum Tuhin of the Channel
24, Salauddin Bablu of SATV, Alamgir Hossain and Sushanta Sinha of Jamuna TV.

Each award winner received a cheque of Tk 50,000, a crest and a
certificate.

ERF member and chief reporter of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Md
Ashequn Nabi Chowdhury was honored on his appointment as the press minister
of the Bangladesh High Commission to the United Kingdom (UK).

Finance Minister AMA Muhith handed over a crest to Ashequn Nabi
Chowdhury.

Nine journalists from print, TV and online media have been given ERF-
ActionAid fellowship.
