Govt, police working to fulfill demands of students: Monirul

DHAKA, August 2, 2018 (BSS) – Additional Commissioner of Dhaka
Metropolitan Police (DMP) Monirul Islam said the government along with the
police department is working to fulfill the logical demands of students.

While addressing a press briefing at DMP media centre, Monirul, also
Deputy Inspector General (DIG), requested all guardians and teachers of the
agitating students to return back them from demonstrations.

“In the name of students’ demonstration, a vested quarter is taking
advantage by posting old pictures taken in 2012 and 2013 on Facebook,” he
said.

The DMP spokesman said some people have opened groups on facebook to
provoke students, adding, “We are trying to find out them and after
detaining, cases will be filed against them.”

He also urged all concerned not to mislead the innocent students.

Monirul said hajj passengers and patients are facing sufferings due to
the strike on different streets of the city.

Mentioning that demands of the students would be implemented in phases,
he urged them to go back their own educational institutions.

He said, “Around 300 vehicles were vandalised and eight vehicles were
torched along with police vehicles during the recent agitation.

He said process is underway to bring transport sector under discipline,
but it will take time, adding, “Those who vandalised vehicles are not
students, so students are requested to remain alert.”
