PM wants more Danish investment

DHAKA, Aug 2, 2018 (BSS)- Expressing deep satisfaction over the existing relation between Bangladesh and Denmark in different areas Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today sought more Danish investment.

The prime minister offered giving land for setting up of Danish industries in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) as outgoing Danish ambassador Mikael Hemniti Winthern made a farewell call on Prime Minister at her office here today.

PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim said the prime minister thanked the envoy for his role in further strengthening ties between the two countries in different areas.

She highlighted Bangladesh’s recent socioeconomic development and said use of technology by people helped achieving higher GDP growth.

In this regard she pointed out up-gradation of telephone system from analogue to digital and end of monopoly in the cellular phone market by her government after coming to power in 1996.

The press secretary said the prime minister and the Danish envoy also discussed on disaster management issues when the prime minister highlighted Bangladesh’s preparedness including creating sufficient number of trained volunteers to cope with any disaster.

The prime minister thanked the friendly countries for their support to assist Bangladesh to face the crisis arose after arrival of Rohingyas.

The ambassador expressed satisfaction over the existing relation between the two countries saying the relation has gone to a new height now. He praised the leadership of the prime minister saying internationally Bangladesh’s image has been brightened now.

The envoy highly appreciated the prime minister’s humanitarian gesture by hosting more than one million replaced Rohingyas and reaffirmed Denmark’s commitment to extend humanitarian assistance for Rohingyas so that they can go back.

The envoy laid importance on protection of environment in the areas where Rohingyas are now living and said he is optimistic about the success of Bangladesh.
