Parents of Diya, Rajib call on PM

DHAKA, Aug 2, 2018 (BSS) – Parents and family members of Diya and Rajib,
the two college students who died in the earlier this week’s dreadful bus
crash on the Airport Road, today called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at
the PMO.

Premier’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim said the prime minister consoled
the parents and said she would stand by the families with all possible
supports.

“I have no language to console you as I can feel the pain of losing near
and dear one . . . In one night I lost all members of my family,” he quoted
her as saying during talks with the family members.

The premier also gave saving certificates of Taka 20 lakh to each of the
families, Karim said.

Diya’s father Jahangir Fakir met the prime minister along with Diya’s
mother, brother and sister while Rajib’s mother Mohima Begum met her along
with her sister.

The press secretary said in an emotional voice Diya’s father, a bus driver
himself, pointed out some problems of the transport sector and the drivers in
particular.

“Most of the drivers are overworked and exhausted resulting in frequent
road accidents on roads,” he said.

Home Minister Asadizzaman Khan Kamal and Principal of Shahid Ramiz Uddin
School and College Nurnahar Yasmin were present.

The prime minister requested the children of the families to pursue their
studies attentively and use the financial assistance for essential family
expenses.

Principal of the Ramiz Uddin School and College, where the two students
studied, briefed the prime minister of the transport problems faced by
students come to the school from far flung areas.

The press secretary said the instantly asked the authorities concerned to
give five buses for carrying the students and build an underpass near Ramiz
Uddin School and College on Airport Road.

The prime minister directed deployment of traffic policemen and
construction of speed breakers in front of all city schools.

She said the government already took necessary steps to avert such
accident in future, stop movement of vehicles without fitness and resting
arrangement for drivers on highways.

Karim said parents expressed gratitude to the prime minister and hoped that
the agitating students would go back to home.

Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib were killed as a Jabal-e-Noor
Paribahan bus ploughed through them on July 29.
