President, PM wish success of World Breastfeeding Week

DHAKA, July 31, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina today wished success of the World Breastfeeding Week 2018 and
hoped that the initiative would help build a healthy and prosperous nation.

The theme of this year’s World Breastfeeding Week is ‘Breastfeeding:
Foundation for Life’ – recognition of the importance of breastfeeding to a
baby’s future.

In separate messages, they said there is no alternative to breastfeeding
for the normal growth of children as it contains essential nutrition for the
infants, which increase their resistance power.

The President said breastfeeding can ensure all essential elements
needed for physical and mental growth of babies.

He said at present the practice of breastfeeding has increased than
before, stressing the need for creating awareness among people about the
importance of breastfeeding.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the Health and Family
Welfare Ministry, the Institute of Public Health Nutrition (IPHN), the
National Nutrition Service (NNS) and Bangladesh Breastfeeding Foundation to
work with non-government organisations to strengthen breastfeeding activities
in the country.

As per the World Breastfeeding Trends Initiative (WBTi) 2015, Bangladesh
is in 3rd position out of 152 countries for breastfeeding, she said.
