4 JMB men taken on 7-day remand in Rangpur

RANGPUR, July 31, 2018 (BSS) – Four alleged top operatives of outlawed Jama’atul Mujahedeen Bangladesh (JMB) were taken on seven-day remand today by Gangachara Thana police for interrogation, police said.

Detective Branch (DB) of Bogra Police in association with local police arrested the JMB operatives from remote Meena Bazar area in Gangachara upazila of Rangpur and seized one AK-22 rifle, 15 bullets and two pistols from them on Sunday.

The arrestees are Azharul Islam alias Wanur, 32, of village Kuribiswa Dolapara, Akramuzzaman alias Mukul, 26, Faruk alias Sazu, 22, and Abdul Hakim alias Milon, 34, of village of village Char Bagdohra under Gangachara upazila of Rangpur.

“After primary interrogation, Bogra DB police filed a case against the JMB men under the Anti-terrorism Act and handed them over to Gangachara Thana police on Monday,” Mashiur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangachara Model Thana, told BSS today.

“We appointed SI Abdul Matin of Gangachara Model Thana as the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case,” the OC adding that some other JMB operatives managed to flee from the scene during the raids conducted by police in Meena Bazar area on Sunday.

For better investigation into case, the IO produced the arrested JMB operatives before the Court of Additional Chief Judicial magistrate of Rangpur Arifur Rahman with a prayer of 10-police remand today for interrogation under police custody.

“After hearing on the prayer, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Arifur Rahman granted seven day police remand today afternoon,” OC Mashiur Rahman added.

“Azharul is Chief of Dawa Wing of Rangpur district, Akramuzzaman is Chief of Dawa Wing of Gangachara upazila and Faruk and Abdul Hakim are members of Military Wing of Rangpur district of JMB, the OC said quoting primary interrogation findings.
