Week-long income tax fair begins in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Nov 1, 2017 (BSS) – A week-long Income Tax Fair-2017 began here today with the main thrust of inspiring the taxpayers in paying income tax spontaneously coupled with boosting more new taxpayers.

Commissioner’s Office of Rajshahi Tax Zone organized the fair at Zafar Imam Tennis Complex here.

Omar Faruque Chowdhury and Commissioner of Rajshahi division Nur-Ur-Rahman addressed the inaugural session as the chief and special guests respectively with Dr Khandakar Ferdous Alam, Commissioner of Taxes in Rajshahi, in the chair.

Tax Commissioner (Appellate) Sunil Kumar Shaha, Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Mahbubor Rahman, Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police of Rajshahi Range Nisharul Arif, Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Moazzem Hossain and President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Md Muniruzzaman also spoke on the occasion.

Some 10 stalls of the fair will remain open from 10 am to 5 pm everyday till November 7. New taxpayers will be able to collect their tax identification numbers (TINs) while the existing TIN holders will be able to submit their income tax returns at the fair.

Income Tax officials will remain present at the fair to provide advice and suggestions on income tax, TIN certificates and assist the tax payers in filling out the Income Tax Return forms. Janata and Sonali banks have set up booths to help the taxpayers in paying their income taxes.

Income Tax Commissioner Dr Ferdous Alam gave an overview of the fair saying the taxpayers would get enormously benefited by attending the fair.

The fair would help minimize the existing panic and anxiety among the public in general about tax payment and return submission.

He added that the rate of income tax earning has been growing day by day in the wake of bringing simplicity in the tax realization system together with building cordial relation between the tax officials and taxpayers.

“We have set a target to realize taxes of Taka 832 crore in the current 2017-18 fiscal and we are hopeful attaining the target by end of the fiscal,” expected Dr Alam.

Around 2,000 new more taxpayers will be identified in survey during the current fiscal. To expand the tax network, various motivational campaigns like tax fair, survey and rewards for the taxpayers have been introduced.
