DHAKA, July 30, 2018 (BSS) – Finance Minister AMA Muhith today asked the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Office to audit the public accounts regularly.

“Back lock of audit is nearing completion. I think, this is the last year, and the back lock will remain,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at the farewell function of the Former Finance Secretary Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury at the secretariat in the city.

Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury has been appointed as the CAG of Bangladesh.

Among others, State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan, Senior Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division M Eunusur Rahman, Secretary in Charge of the Finance Division Abdur Rouf Talukder and senior officials of Finance Division were present at the function.

Muhith said CAG is a very dignified post since it is a constitutional post. In the government search committee, auditor general always plays an important role as its chairman or member, he added.

“We can generate innovative ideas in the CAG office,” he added.

Emphasising the people friendly public financing system, Mannan asked the officers of the CAG office to be more people-oriented.

As a new CAG, Muslim Chowdhury said, he is trying to ensure public service accountability.

He said the CAG office works to ensure transparency and integrity in the revenue and expenditure of the government.

In this regard, he said the CAG office will try to ensure institutional accountability. If institutional accountability will be ensured, the personal accountability will automatically be ensured, he added.
