Pay Tk 5 lakh each to families of Mim, Rajib: HC

DHAKA, July 30, 2018 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today ordered owner of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan, whose bus on July 29 crushed 2 college students to death and injured several others, to pay Taka five lakh each to the families of the dead.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md. Khairul Alam passed the order after holding hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard.

“The court ordered to pay Taka five lakh each to the families of the two deceased within a week. The court also issued a rule asking to reply as to why it shall not pass order to pay Taka two crore each to the families in compensation,” Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal, who filed and moved the writ, told newsmen.

The court also ordered the bus owner to pay for all the treatments of the people injured in that incident.

“The High Court also asked BRTA to file a report on the criteria of getting driving license and its steps to ensure safety of the people on roads,” Kazal added.

The court asked Home Affairs Secretary, Transport Secretary, Inspector General Of Police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Additional Commissioner (traffic) Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and owner of that bus company to reply the rule.

The court also formed a committee headed by the chief of Accident Research Institute of Bangladesh University of Technology and Engineering (BUET) to assess responsibility behind the accident and asked it to submit its report within two months.

The committee has been asked to submit their assessment report to the HC in two months.

Two students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College were killed and ten others were injured as a speedy bus of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan hit them as they were waiting beside road to catch transport after college.

Meanwhile, a case has been lodged over the incident with Cantonment Police Station today. Md Jahangir, father of Diya Khanam Mim, who lost her life in the incident, lodged the case today.
