Runa Laila receives Firoza Begum Gold Medal

DHAKA, July 30, 2018 (BSS) – Dhaka University (DU) today conferred
“Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal” on eminent singer Runa Laila.

DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman put the medal
around Runa’s neck at a function held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate
Bhaban on the campus.

The function was organised by the university’s “Feroza Begum Memorial
Gold Medal Trust Fund” marking the 92nd birth anniversary of the late
renowned singer.

“It’s a special day in my life. It is a blessing for me to get such an
award remembering Firoza Begum Apa. Reward gives pleasure and inspiration,
but this reward is different as it is named after Feroza Begum. Thanks so
much for deeming me as the eligible for the reward,” Runa Laila said in her
reaction.

Remembering the memory of legendary Nazrul Sangeet Artiste Feroza Begum,
Runa Laila said “She always inspired artists. She adored and blessed me when
I met her. Her memory will remain forever to us along with her songs.”

While addressing the programme as the chief guest, DU VC Akhtaruzzaman
said Feroza Begum was a legendary figure who spread Nazrul Sangeet to the
world. He also congratulated Runa Laila for achieving the prestigious reward.

ACI Foundation chairman M. Anis Ud Dowla, Chairman of Feroza Begum
Foundation and donor of the trust fund, gave the welcome speech upholding the
dedication, sacrifices and practices for music of her sister Feroza Begum.

DU music department graduate Urmi Ghosh achieved “Feroza Begum Memorial
Gold Medal” for getting the highest CGPA in Bachelor of Arts examination in
2017.

Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal Trust Fund was formed by her family
with Taka 60 lakh on February 13, 2016 in memory of Feroza Begum who was born
in July 28, 1926 and died in September 9, 2014.
