PWD implements more 13 uplift projects in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, July 30, 2018 (BSS) – Public Works Department (PWD) has been
implementing more thirteen uplift schemes involving around Taka 180.33 crore
in the district as a part of present government’s ongoing development
activities.

PWD officials here said 17 development projects had been implemented at a
total cost of around Taka 76.28 crore during the first tenure of the present
government. Currently, the works of thirteen important projects are
progressing fast with an estimated cost of around Taka 180.33 crore.

Construction work of a complex for Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 is in the
final stage at a cost of over Taka 75.72 crore aiming at infusing further
dynamism into its administrative and operational activities, they said.

Capacity Development Programme of Technical Training Centre (TTC) is being
implemented involving around Taka 9.12 crore for both qualitative and
quantitative improvement of its education.

“We have started construction works of a 250-bed Government Shishu Hospital
here with an initial estimated cost of Taka 32 crore,” said Ferdous Shahnewaj
Kanta, Executive Engineer of PWD, while talking to BSS on Sunday.

Upgradation and renovation works of Nursing College and Hostel spending
Taka 19.50 crore is going on for generating more skilled nurses to meet its
gradual demand both in home and abroad.

The construction of female hostel in Rajshahi Medical College (RMC),
vertical extension of its academic and pharmacology building is progressing
fast at total cost of Taka eight crore.

Kanta said various renovation and maintenance works in Rajshahi Medical
College Hospital (RMCH) is being progressed with involvement of Taka 8.50
crore to improve its service quality.

Wards from No. 1 to 15, outdoor, emergency and X-Ray sections and Operation
Theater blocks were brought under the development works with renovation and
repairing of power supply system, substation, generator and overhauling, she
said.

“We have also planned for vertical extension from fifth floor to tenth
floor of RMCH’s new four-storied building under its modernization and
expansion project,” she added.

Initiative has been taken to establish a technical training centre at
Mohanpur Upazila with an estimated cost of around Taka 21.67 crore aiming at
expanding technical and vocational education to the rural youths both male
and female for transforming them into worthy citizens.

A fire service and civil defense station is also being built in the same
upazila at a cost of around Taka 3.73 crore, Kanta also said.
