Govt to amend existing labour law in next JS session:Mujibul

DHAKA, July 29, 2018 (BSS) – The government has decided to amend the existing Bangladesh Labour (Amendment) Law which would be placed in the next session of parliament.

State Minister for Labour and Employment M Mujibul Haq said this after attending a meeting of Tri-partite Consultation Council (TCC) comprising with the 62-members representatives from government, owners and labours organizations at a city hotel here today.

“After a long discussion, the TCC has come to a consensus regarding amendment to most of the sections and sub-sections of the labour act,” said Mujibul Haq, who chaired it.

The draft of the labour law would be placed before the cabinet as soon as possible, the state minister added.

The state minister said TCC would be further strengthened and it would be brought under the purview of the act. Under the new act, existing maternity leave will be considered as maternity facilities for women labourers, he added.

Besides, the word labour will be specially defined under the new law, he said.

Labour Secretary Afroza Khan, Inspector General of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishment M Shamsuzzaman Bhuiyan, Additional Secretary M Ashraf Shamim, Director General of the Department of Labour Shibnath Roy, Bangladesh Employers Federation President Kamran T Rahman, BGMEA Director Saifuddin Ahmed, BKMEA Vice-President Monsur Ahmed and Jatiya Sramik League President Sukkur Mahmud, Bangladesh Jatiya Sramik Jote President Shirin Akhter MP, Jatiya Sramik League Executive President Fazlul Haq Montu, its General Secretary M Sirajul Islam, Bangladesh Trade Union Central General Secretary Dr Wazedul Islam Khan, Bangladesh Trade Union Sangha’s General Secretary Chowdhury Ashiqul Islam, Industry All Bangladesh Council Secretary General Roy Ramesh Chandra and Samajtantrik Sramik Front General Secretary Razekuzzaman Ratan were present.
