National Campus Journalism Fest held at SUST

SYLHET, July 29, 2018 (BSS) – With the theme, “Together We United”, a
two-day long National Campus Journalism Fest-2018 was held on Shahjalal
University of Science and Technology (SUST) campus, Sylhet.

Shahjalal University Press Club organised the fest at SUST auditorium
focusing on various aspects of campus-based journalism and creating relation
between campus journalists and other stakeholders.

Media Affairs Adviser of Prime Minister’s Md Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury was
present at the programme as the chief guest at the closing ceremony yesterday
evening.

Chowdhury, in his speech, said, “Campus journalists have to play a
pivotal role in keeping their campuses free from terrorism and drugs. They
should unite all university bodies, including political and socio-cultural,
to keep congenial atmosphere at all the educational institutions with the
spirit of Liberation War.”

He also stressed on the inclusion of campus journalists in the 9th Wage
board to establish the rights of the young journalists.

Editor-in- Chief of Ekushey Television Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul urged the
campus journalists to give importance on their academic degrees besides their
professional responsibilities.

SUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed urged the university
reporters to play role in keeping the activities of university administration
transparent and accountable.

The guests also unveiled the cover of a publication titled “Kothon”
published by SUST press club.

BBC Correspondent Akbar Hossain and Jamuna TV special correspondent
Mohsin Ul Hakim shared their experiences, problems and prospects of
journalism in the country during the views of exchange.

Around 200 Journalists from 27 journalists’ associations from 22 public
and private universities took part in the programme while renowned
journalists from national and international media outlets delivered speech to
enthuse and inspire young journalists about prospect and prosper of
journalism.

SUST Press Club President Abdullah Al Mansur presided over the closing
session and the General Secretary Fayzullah Wasif coordinated it.

A first fever federation of all the university journalists’ associations
titled “Bangladesh Campus Journalists’ Federation” was also formed at the
event with Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (DUJA) President Asifur
Rahman as the convener and DUJA general secretary Mahmudul Hasan Nayon as the
member secretary.

Earlier, prominent writer and educationist Professor Dr Muhammed Zafar
Iqbal inaugurated the fest on Friday.
