Anisul invites development partners to engage with justice audit
DHAKA, July 29, 2018 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs
Minister Anisul Huq today invited all development partners active in
supporting justice sector reform to engage with the justice audit and design
their interventions in support of future steps.
“I along with the home minister have started a forum for inter-ministerial
dialogue, together with police, prisons etc. to agree on options for future
reform. I’m confident that the findings of the justice audit will steer and
support this discussion. We’ll use the inter-ministerial forum to identify,
prioritise and set concrete targets for change in policy and practice,” Huq
said.
The law minister said these while addressing the launching of National
Justice Audit (NJA) programme at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre
(BICC) this afternoon.
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain addressed the function as the chief
guest, while Law Division Secretary Abu Saleh Sheikh Md Zahirul Haque, Deputy
Head of Mission of German Embassy Michael Schultheiss, Head of DFID
Bangladesh Jane Edmondson, Head of Rule of Law Programme of GIZ Permita
Sengupta, addressed the function, among others.
“To my knowledge, with this endeavour, Bangladesh becomes the first
country in the world to conduct such an audit of its entire justice system
and I hope that other countries will learn from this example,” Anisul Huq
added.
The law minister said the present government is committed to digitalizing
Bangladesh and so wanted to move away from a narrative report format to
innovate with new technology and bring the data to life.
“What we have here is a “tool” that needs to be actively used by
practitioners to understand their respective challenges, create joint action
plans across institutions and measure impact as interventions are put in
place collectively,” he further said.
