Regional Tree Olympiad begins in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Oct 31, 2017 (BSS)- A three-month Regional Tree Olympiad began here on Monday with the aim of increasing consciousness among the students and other young generation for flourishing their latent talents on the issue.

Bangladesh Resource Center for Indigenous knowledge (BARCIK) and Barind Educational and Cultural Diversity Protection Center (BECDPC) jointly organized the Olympiad on Meherchandi High School premises in the city.

Headmaster of the school Shafiqul Islam, Assistant Headmaster Haider Ali, BARCIK Regional Coordinator Shahidul Islam, BECDPC President Jinatun Nessa, Publicity Secretary Jawad Ahmed Rafi and Tree Olympiad General Secretary Shamiul Alim Shaon addressed the opening session.

More than 150 students took part in the first round test consisting of extempore speech on trees and the environment and a 20-mark written examination. Of them, 10 students qualified for the final round and they were given ‘Yes’ cards.

According to the sources concerned, the first round of Regional Tree Olympiad will continue to January 15, 2018.

Students from various educational institutions in Tanore, Godagari and Paba upazilas and Rajshahi City Corporation are selected to take part in the first phase. The final round will be held at the end of January-2018. The Olympiad will be held in two categories- category ‘A’ for students from class six to eight, and ‘ B’ for secondary, higher secondary and graduate students.
