Bangladeshi student grand champion in global arithmetic competition

DHAKA, July 29, 2018 (BSS) – Sharif Adibur Rahman , a class eight student of European Standard School (ESS) in city’s Dhanmondi area, has become the grand champion at the Aloha Mental Arithmetic International Competition-2018 in Russia.

The competition was held at the World Trade Center in Moscow on July 22, said a press release here. Previously, Adib became the first runner-up at the International Arithmetic Competition of 2015, 2016 and 2017 held in Manila of the Philippines, Yogyakarta of Indonesia and Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia respectively.

Nearly 50,000 students from 35 countries, including Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, the Philippines, Australia, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Croatia, Mexico and Russia, took part in those competitions every year.

Sharif Adibur Rahman is the second son of freedom fighter and former district judge Sharif Lutfor Rahman and English medium school teacher Nayema Khanum Beauty and grandson of late Prof. ANM Abdul Mannan Khan, ex-chairman of Department of Arabic, Dhaka University.
