Two killed over land dispute in Rangpur
RANGPUR, July 28, 2018 (BSS) – Two persons were killed and another was seriously injured in a clash over land dispute in Tahirpur Mazjila Moholla of Pirganj municipality area under Pirganj upazila here today, police said.
“The deceased were identified as Raza Mandal, 60, son of late Fazal Mandal and Rafikul Islam Mandal, 43, son of late Aziz Mandal of Tahirpur Mazjila area,” said officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pirganj Thana Rezaul Karim.
Quoting local sources, the OC said there was a long enmity over land dispute between deceased Raza Mandal and his grand son Harun Mandal of the same area.
The conflict was resolved at a local arbitration recently when Harun Mandal handed over position of 10 decimals of disputed land to Raza Mandal.
As per the settlement, Raza Mandal went to the 10 decimals of land this morning.
At one stage, Harun Mandal resisted Raza Mandal on the land triggering the clash and severely injured him through chopping with a sharp spade.
Observing the scene from nearby area, Shamsul Haque, son of Raza Mandal, rushed to the spot to rescue his father when Harun Mandal chopped him with the spade and injured him too.
Then, Rafikul Islam, a nephew of deceased Raza Mandal, also rushed there to rescue his injured cousin when Harun again critically injured him by chopping with the same spade.
Centering the incident, a bloody clash erupted among the people of the two rival groups when Harun Mandal was injured.
Local villagers sent the injured people to Pirganj Upazila Heath Complex from where they were shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
“Raza Mandal succumbed to his injuries at RMCH at 9 am while Rafikul Islam died there at 4 pm today,” the OC said adding that Harun Mandal was undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
