President, PM stress on creating awareness to check hepatitis

DHAKA, July 27, 2018 (BSS) – President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today urged the government and non-government organizations, institutions and individuals to create awareness among the people to control the deadly disease like Hepatitis.

They made the call in separate messages on the eve of the World Hepatitis Day 2018 to be observed in the country tomorrow as elsewhere in the world aiming at enhancing awareness about the deadly virus.

President Abdul Hamid, in his message, said liver is an important organ of human body. But due to lack of knowledge about liver diseases and their prevention, the number of liver patients is increasing gradually in the country, he added.

He urged all authorities concerned to take necessary measures to inspire the people to prevent the liver related diseases.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, underscored the need for creating extensive mass awareness and ensuring proper treatment facilities to prevent hepatitis virus.

She said the government is working relentlessly to reach the updated healthcare facilities at the doorsteps of the people and to ensure the standard of the health services.

The virus is curable through medical tests and treatment, she added, urging the liver specialists to give treatment to their patients with the mentality of providing better health services.

Terming the day’s theme of this year ‘Find the Missing Millions’ is time-befitting, the President and the Prime Minister said the observance of the day would play a vital role in attaining targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by eliminating the viruses within 2030.

They also wished all programmes of the day a success.
