Harvesting of jute gets momentum in Narsingdi district

NARSINGDI July 27, 2018 (BSS) – Harvesting of jute plants get momentum
in all the six upazilas of the district following adequate rainfall in the
recent days.

The farmers are now engaged in separating fibers from jute plants with
much enthusiasm for getting the high prices of jute this season.

A good number of newly harvesting jute have started coming to the local
markets. The farmers are happy getting excellent price of jute this season.
The newly harvested jute is being sold at Taka 1500 to 1800 per mounds (40
Kg) depending on their varieties and qualities.

The market is expected to be flooded with new jute within fifteen to
twenty days as only 15 to 20 percent harvest of cash crop has so far been
completed in the district. The farmers of the district have brought 3,200
hectares of land under jute farming in the district with a target to produce
32,000 bales of jute this year, the official said.

Talking to BSS, Deputy Director of Department Of Agriculture extension
(DAE) Latafat Hossain said the farmers are happy with the adequate rainfall
during the last few days as they now able to complete their targeted
transplantation of Aman seedling by the schedule time after completion of
harvesting of jute.
