DHAKA, July 26, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today urged Germany to implement the e-Passport project fast as per the agreement signed between the two countries as outgoing German Ambassador Dr Thomas Heinrich Prinz called on him at Bangabhaban here this afternoon.

Bangladesh and Germany signed a government-to-government agreement on implementation of e-Passport on July 19 last.

“The President hoped that the e-passport project will be implemented within the stipulated timeframe,” President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS.

He said relations between Bangladesh and Germany have been growing since 1972 when Germany recognised Bangladesh’s independence.

“Germany is one of the closest development partners of Bangladesh . . . Besides, bilateral trade and investment relations between the two countries are excellent,” the President added.

He also appreciated the overall activities of the outgoing German envoy during his assignment in Bangladesh.

Lauding the country’s overall environment, the ambassador said, “Many German investors have already invested in various sectors, especially in the power and energy sectors, in Bangladesh while many others are very keen to increase their investment here.”

The envoy said the bilateral relations between the two countries are deep-rooted and expanded even to civil society.

Secretaries concerned to the President were present.
