President for transparency, accountability at field administration

DHAKA, July 25, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today asked the divisional and deputy commissioners (DCs) to introduce the culture of transparency and accountability at all levels of field administration and give priority to people’s welfare discarding personal interest.

“Shun your personal interests . . . give priority to people’s welfare,” he told the administrative chiefs of divisions and districts at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban this evening.

The President categorically asked them to serve the country and its people as real “public servants” and ensure that none is harassed in the name getting service.

Noting that corruption disrupts country’s socio-economic development, he urged DCs to raise public awareness against corrupt individuals at their respective jurisdictions.

President Hamid also advised them to be more cautious about their activities so that nothing becomes the cause of any embarrassing situation for government and local administration.

The President addressed them as the commissioners and DCs rallied in the capital to join the annual DC conference to interact with policymakers on development and governance issues and set out priorities and guidelines for work for the subsequent one year.

Abdul Hamid said Bangladesh is a bright example of communal harmony and secularism and asked the field level administrators to intensify the campaign to root out terrorism and militancy at any cost.

Referring to different mega development projects in agriculture, education, communication and infrastructural sectors, he said, “Remain alert about the optimum use of each Taka of people.”

The President suggested the DCs to continue their efforts in line with the incumbent government targeted services to build a “Digital Bangladesh”.

About the existing land management countrywide, President Hamid underscored the need for making land management system more efficient, modern, easy and people-friendly.

“Being the prime coordinator of different government activities at the grassroots level, utilize your talents and skills to build a country ‘Sonar Bangla’ free from hunger, poverty and exploitation as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheik Mujibur Rahman,” he said.

The president sought heartfelt cooperation and active participation from all the countrymen as well as all government officials to materialize the target of the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 and the developed country status by 2041.

He gave a number of directives to the DCs on different socio-economic and cultural issues including infrastructure development, education, environment and youth development.

Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam delivered the welcome speech while Barishal Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Shahiduzzaman and Gopalganj’s Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mokhlesur Rahman Sarker gave the vote of thanks.

Secretaries to the President, all divisional commissioners and the deputy commissioners were present at the conference.
