Deal for Dhaka-Tongi 3rd, 4th, Tongi-Joydebpur 2nd dual lines inked

DHAKA, July 24, 2018 (BSS) – The government today signed an agreement for setting up 3rd and 4th dual gauge train lines on Dhaka-Tongi and dual gauge double lines on Tongi-Joydebpur section.

“The agreement was signed under Indian Line of Credit (LoC) for installing the railway tracks on Dhaka-Tongi and Tongi-Joydebpur section,” Railways Minister M Mazibul Hoque said this while witnessing the signing ceremony as the chief guest at Bangladesh Railway (BR) Bhaban here.

He said this project is very important for Bangladesh Railway, adding, “Currently, only two railway lines were used to entry and exit of the capital city from Tongi. If there are two more lines, the train can run smoothly.”

The minister said Afcons and Kalpataru Power Transmission Limited (KPTL) would construct the railway lines jointly.

Additional Director General of BR Kazi M Rafiqul Alam and Vice president of AFCON Anup Kumar Guru signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.

Under the deal, the company will complete the work within 36 months and the contract cost estimated Taka 1,393 crore 78 lakh 90 thousand.

The railway minister said that the present government gave importance to development Bangladesh Railway. As a result, new projects are being taken.

Railways Secretary M Mofazzel Hossain, Director General M Amjad Hossain and representatives of contracting companies and concerned officials were present at the signing ceremony.
