DHAKA, Oct 26, 2017 (BSS) – United Nations General Assembly President Miroslav Lajcak has said the Rohingya issue appeared as UN’s priority concern while Dhaka’s suggestions as a key stakeholder would be of crucial help in resolving the crisis, a foreign ministry statement said today.
“Right this moment the ongoing situation in Myanmar is a priority issue and matter of concern for the UN and the international community,” the statement quoted him as saying.
Lajcak, it said, added that being a key stakeholder of the issue Bangladesh’s direct experience, opinions and suggestions would be of great help in resolving the crisis. The UNGA president’s comments came as chairman of Bangladesh’s parliamentary standing committee on foreign affairs Dr Dipu Moni called on him in New York yesterday.
Moni, the statement said, on the other hand, said Bangladesh would continue diplomatic relations with Myanmar “but Naypyidaw’s “actions must match with its promises”.
“They must ensure the return of their displaced nationals to live in their own home with dignity, security and peace with all civic rights,” she said.
Moni said Bangladesh has full support to the programmes and visions taken under Miroslav’s leadership by the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly.
