10 DU students receive Sitara Parvin Award

DHAKA, July 23, 2018 (BSS) – A total of 10 meritorious students of the
Department of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) of Dhaka University
(DU) here today were awarded ‘Professor Sitara Parvin Award’ for their
outstanding academic results in Bachelor of Social Science (BSS) Examination
of 2017.

DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman handed over the
scholarships among the awardees as the chief guest at a function held at the
Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium of Social Science Building of the
university.

The awardees are: Ragib Rahman, Sanjoy Basak Partha, Farzana Tasnim
Pinky, Jakia Jahan Mukta, Md Shamim Hossain, Wahida Jaman Shithi,
Siyeduzzaman Shohag, Zinat Sharmin, Dayed Hasan and Durjoy Chakraborty.

Prominent cultural personality Ramendu Majumdar delivered “Sitara Parvin
Memorial Lecture’ on the occasion.

Chairman of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Prof. Dr
Kaberi Gayen presided over the function while Prof. Dr. Ahaduzzaman Mohammad
Ali gave vote of thanks.

DU VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman paid glowing tribute to the memory of late
Prof. Sitara Parvin.

He congratulated the awardees for their brilliant success and urged them
to equip themselves with humanitarian values.

Prof. Sitara Parvin was the daughter of former President Justice
Shahabuddin Ahmad and the wife of Prof. Dr. Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali. She
died in a tragic road accident in the USA on 23 June, 2005.
