22 makeshift cattle markets in city

DHAKA, July 22, 2018 (BSS) – Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said the government has decided to set up 22 makeshift cattle markets in the capital for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha apart from the permanent market at Gabtoli.

“Members of the law enforcement agencies would ensure security of the sellers and buyers of sacrificing animals by setting up camps,” he told newsmen after a meeting on law and order ahead of the National Mourning Day and the Eid-ul-Azha at his ministry’s conference room here.

The minister said members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) would also be deployed to ensure security in the cattle markets and police would monitor Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras.

He said the law enforcement agencies have asked to remain alert on highways alongside cattle laden transports aimed at preventing extortion during the Eid, adding, “No cattle markets on the highways and railway tracks will be allowed.”

“As an initiative to prevent muscle power on cattle laden trucks, every animal laden truck would have to maintain banner with specific name of the cattle market,” the minister said. Members of the law enforcement agencies including RAB, both in uniform and plain clothes would be deployed for peaceful celebration of the holy Eid, Kamal said.

Besides, the government has also decided to install fake note detector machines on every makeshift cattle market to avoid untoward incident, he said.

Kamal said that the law enforcement agencies would also prevent supply and use of harmful drugs, which were used to make fat animals on the eve of Eid, adding, “The livestock ministry would provide the list of illegal and harmful drugs to the home ministry.”

“The entire country would be brought under stringent security measures, including all Eid congregations in the capital city as elsewhere in the country,” he said.

The minister said the law enforcement agencies have been asked to be active at different strategic points in the cities, including bus terminals, railway stations, river-ports, launch and ferry ghats, to prevent any untoward situation.

Several petrol teams would patrol the big cities exit and entry points to ensure smooth movement of motor vehicles during the Eid period and maintain law and order, he said.

Later, the home minister also held another meeting to peacefully observe the National Mourning Day on August 15. On this day, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members were brutally assassinated by a very few of derailed army officials. Concerned officials were present in the meeting.
