DHAKA, May 15, 2021 (BSS) – Coming down heavily on BNP leaders comments, Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said BNP and its secretary general couldn’t come out from the politics of hatred even on the Eid day.

“Begum Khaleda Zia celebrated the Eid outside the prison for unprecedented generosity of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. But, BNP couldn’t come out from the politics of hatred even on the Eid day,” he told replying to a query.

Earlier, the minister exchanged views with the journalists on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr at his official residence at Mintu Road in the capital.

Hasan said, “It is really regrettable that BNP and its secretary general could not stop giving objectionable speech on the day of Eid. They continued their politics of hatred.”

The minister said BNP Chief Begum Zia was supposed to celebrate her Eid at prison as she is a convicted person. “But, the Prime Minister has shown her unprecedented generosity by extending Begum Khaleda Zia’s release from jail. For this, BNP should give thanks to the premier,” said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

Sharply criticizing another comment of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the minister said, in fact, he has lost his common sense. People have been celebrating the Eid with joy and enthusiasm during the last 12 years, said Hasan.

Replying to another query over COVID 19 situation, he said the situation of Bangladesh is much better compared to neighboring countries including India and Nepal due to prompt measures taken by the government. The government has taken timely decision to save the lives and livelihood of people during the pandemic, he added.

He said the government has sent incentives to the mobile phones of poor people as per the directives of the Prime Minister. But BNP or other political parties did not take any initiative of sending money to the poor people in the country, he added.
