Election officials directed to work neutrally

RANGPUR, July 22, 2018 (BSS) -Election Commissioner (EC) Md Rafiqul Islam has directed the election officials concerned to work neutrally in conducting the by-election to Kurigram-3 parliamentary seat in a free, fair and
transparent manner.

“We have power, arms and laws to conduct an acceptable and neutral election,” Rafiqul Islam said while addressing a views-exchange meeting on ‘By-election to Kurigram-3 Parliamentary Seat-2018’ held at Kurigram on
Saturday afternoon as the chief guest.

The election commissioner assured the election officials of all administrative supports to perform their respective duties with a complete neutrality to ensure a free and fair by-election on July 25 next.

Deputy commissioner of Kurigram Sultana Pervin presided over the meeting.

The officials concerned involved with the by-election and contesting candidates attended the meeting.

The only two candidates-Awami League-nominated candidate Professor MA Matin and Jatiya Party-nominated candidate Professor Dr. Akkas Ali Sarkar-spoke at the meeting.

The deputy commissioner said a total of 1,534 election officials, including 159 presiding officers, 767 assistant presiding officers and 1,534 polling officers would conduct the polling at 159 centers.

“Besides, mobile courts led by 25 executive magistrates will work for maintaining law and order during the by-election.

Election officials said a total of 3 lakh 66 thousand 811 voters would exercise their voting rights in the by-election.

The Kurigram-3 parliamentary seat fell vacant after the death of lawmaker AKM Maidul Islam on May 10 last.
