RAJSHAHI, May 12, 2021 (BSS)- A car driver was killed and at least 15 others injured when a microbus collided head-on with a car at Jhalmalia area on Rajshahi-Dhaka highway under Puthiya Upazila in the district in the early hours of today.
The deceased car driver was identified as Raju Ahmed, 50, son of Rejaul Islam hailed from Jashore district.
Six of the injured persons were undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) and their health conditions are stated to be critical, said Dr Saiful Ferdous, Deputy Director of the hospital. Nine others were admitted to local health complexes.
Lutfor Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Shibpur Highway Police, said the Rajshahi-bound with around 10 passengers on board from Dhaka collided head-on with the car causing both the vehicles to turn turtle beside the road around 4.30 am.
Local people transported the injured persons to RMCH where the car driver succumbed to his injuries.
Police seized both the ill-fated vehicles and a case was recorded with Puthiya Police Station in this connection.
