Bangladesh gets priority among all neighbours: Sushma

DHAKA, Oct 23, 2017 (BSS) – External Affairs Minister of India Sushma Swaraj today said Bangladesh gets priority among all of India’s neighbours and bilateral ties are moving forward at a fast pace.

“India is following a policy of neighbours first and among the neighbours Bangladesh is foremost,” she said.

She said this while opening the new chancery complex of the Indian High Commission in the capital.

The new chancery complex was constructed on a five-acre of land in Dhaka’s Baridhara diplomatic zone.

Regarding Bangladesh-India bilateral ties, she said: “The relations between the two countries have gone beyond strategic partnership”.

The Indian external affairs minister also inaugurated 15 development projects in Bangladesh funded by India at a cost of Taka 71.64 crore. In the beginning, Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harsh Vardhan Shringla described various activities of the Indian High Commission including easy visa process.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, Health Minister Mohammed Nasim, Environment and Forests Minister Anwar Hossain Manju, Prime Minister’s Political Affairs Adviser HT Imam and Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque were also present on the occasion.

A cultural programme showcasing the deep Bangladesh-India relationship was also held before the Indian External Affairs Minister delivered her speech.

The Indian Minister left here for Delhi by a special flight at 1:13pm wrapping up her less than 24 hours official visit.
