Local cautionary signal 3 for maritime ports

DHAKA, Oct 19, 2017 (BSS) – Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number three as a well-marked low over the west central bay and adjoining areas has intensified into a depression.

“The well marked low over the west central bay and adjoining areas
intensified into a depression over the same area (near lat 16.5on and long 86.5oe) and was centered at 9 am today about 865 kms southwest of Chittagong port, 820 kms southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 745 kms south or southwest of Mongla port and 740 kms south or southwest of Payra port,” according to a met office special weather bulletin here this morning.

It is likely to intensify further and move into a north or north westerly direction, the bulletin said, adding that maximum sustained wind speed within 44 kms of the depression centre is about 40 kph rising to 50 kph in gusts or squalls.

Sea will remain moderate near the depression centre, it said.

All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay and deep sea have been advised to stay near the coast and proceed with caution. They were also advised not to venture into the deep sea.

Besides, a met office warning message said in association with rain or thunder showers temporary east or north-easterly squalls speeding 60-80 kph is likely to occur over the regions of Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Comilla, Noakhali, Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar wherein river ports should hoist riverine warning signal number two while river ports elsewhere over the country should hoist cautionary signal number one.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at most places over Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions and at many places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country in the next 24 hour as of 9 am tomorrow, said a met office press release.

Day and night temperature may fall by 1-3 degree celsius over the country.

Maximum temperature was recorded 35.0 degree celsius yesterday at Rajshahi and today’s minimum temperature 23.2 degree celsius at Tangail in Dhaka division.

The sun sets at 5:29 pm today and rises at 5:58 am tomorrow in Dhaka.
