Sri Lanka A level series after Perera hits ton
DHAKA, July 19, 2018 (BSS)- A magnificent ton by skipper Thisara Perera saw visiting Sri Lanka A level the three-match unofficial ODI 1-1 as they beat hosts Bangladesh A team by 67 runs in the second match held on Thursday at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet.
Chasing a winning target of 276 runs set by Sri Lanka, Bangladesh found the chase stiff and eventually dismissed at 208 in 44.3 overs.
The hosts lost their opener Soumya Sarkar (12) early but one down Zakir Hossain and another opener Saif Hasan (28) kept Bangladesh on course with 53 runs for the second wicket stand.
Al-Amin (46), skipper Mohammad Mithun (25) and Ariful Haque (27) however got off to a good start but could not convert those into a big knock in the face of tight bowling display by the Lankan bowlers.
Malinda Pushpakumara and Nishan Peiris were the most sussessful bowlers as they picked up three Bangladesh’s wickets conceding 32 and 39 runs respectively.
Sri Lankan skipper Thisara Perera was given the man of the match award for his impressive batting performance.
Earlier, a captaincy knock century from Thisara Perera helped visiting Sri Lanka to post a challenging total of 275 for all in 49.4 overs, after they opted to bat first.
The left handed all-rounder, led from the front, blasted 88-ball off 111-run, in innings that studded with nine boundaries and five over boundaries after Sri Lanka suffered early batting jolt as they lost their five top batsmen at 103 in inside 20.3 overs.
Opener Upul Tharanga 44-run off 51-ball laced with four boundaries and one over boundary Ashan Priyanjan added 21-run off 29-ball hitting two fours.
Later, cameo Shehan Madushanka composed run-a-ball 36 helped the visitors to set c competitive target for Bangladesh. Shehan hit two boundaries and equal number of over boundaries during his stay in the crease.
Nayeem Hasan was the pick of Bangladesh bowlers as he grabbed three Sri Lankan’s wicket conceding 42 runs. He was well supported by Sunzamul Islam and Shoriful Islam, who both bagged two wickets apiece giving away 21 and 74 runs respectively.
The third and final match between the two sides will be held on Saturday at the same venue.
Earlier, Bangladesh registered a nerve-wrecking two-run victory over Sri Lankan in the first match.
