Coronavirus: 17,294 infected, 16,022 cured in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 18, 2021 (BSS)-  A total of 17,294 people have been infected with coronavirus (COVID-19), and of them, 16,022 cured since the outbreak of the pandemic amid a rapidly rising infection rate now in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the number of Covid-19 cases quickly rose to 17,294 as 66 more patients were reported after testing 376 samples at the infection rate of 17.55 percent on Saturday in the division.

“The coronavirus infection rate continues rising hastily amid a declining recovery rate during the last one month in the division,” Focal Person of Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 1,20,992 collected samples were tested till Saturday in the division, and of them, 17,294 were found Covid-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.29 percent.

“The district-wise break up of 17,294 patients now stands at 4,431 in Rangpur, 820 in Panchagarh, 1,484 in Nilphamari, 1,021 in Lalmonirhat, 1,098 in Kurigram, 1,613 in Thakurgaon, 5,188 in Dinajpur and 1,639 in Gaibandha,” Dr Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, the number of total recovered patients rose to 16,022 with the healing of 24 more infected people on Saturday in the division.

The average recovery rate currently stands at 92.64 percent in the division.

“Among the 16,022 recovered patients, 4,086 of Rangpur, 783 of Panchagarh, 1,402 of Nilphamari, 967 of Lalmonirhat, 1,012 of Kurigram, 1,498 of Thakurgaon, 4,783 of Dinajpur and 1,491 of Gaibandha districts in the division,” the health official added.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 328 while no more deaths reported from anywhere in the division on Saturday.

The district-wise break-up of the total fatalities now stands at 76 in Rangpur, 116 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 33 in Nilphamari, 17 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 21 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.90 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 17,294 infected patients, 96 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including eight at ICU beds, after recovery of 16,022 patients and 328 deaths while 902 remaining in home isolations across the division.

Meanwhile, a total 5,85,379 registered citizens, including 3,51,073 male and 2,34,306 female, got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccines with inoculation of more 1,138 people with the jabs on Saturday.

Of them, 1,10,411 citizens, including 75,561 male and 34,850 female, who got the first dose of the vaccines at least two months ago, were inoculated with the second dose till Saturday in the division.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged people to strictly abide by the health directives for containing the hastily rising infection rate.
