Govt. focusing on standard of education: Nahid

DHAKA, July 19, 2018 (BSS) – Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today
said the government is focusing on improving standard of education through
introducing different modern and effective systems.

“We are introducing answer paper evaluation system for ensuring better
assessment of students in their examination….This might affect the overall
results of this year’s HSC and equivalent examination,” he told a press
conference on HSC results in the conference room of the Education Ministry.

Secretary of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Division Md Sohrab
Hossain, Secretary of Technical and Madrasah Education Division Md Alamgir,
chairmen of different education boards and senior officials of the Education
Ministry, among others, were present at the press conference.

Nahid said the pass rate of ten education boards has decreased by 2.27
percent as 66.64 students have come out successful this year while the
figures of successful students were 68.91 last year.

“We are giving trainings to the teachers alongside modernizing the
education curriculum to achieve the target of Sustainable Development Goal-4
by 2030. So, it is urgent to introduce better examination system to fulfill
the target,” the minister said.

The Education ministry and its organizations concerned are constantly
working to increase pass rate in the public examination alongside maintaining
quality of education, Nahid added.

“We have been successful in stopping question paper leakage during the HSC
examinations this year as five ministries are working to combat this unfair
practice. We seek cooperation of all to stop the menace of question paper
leakage in the future public examinations,” he said.

On an average 66.64 percent of examinees passed the Higher Secondary
Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations-2018 held under 10 education
boards of the country this year, Nahid said adding a total of 29,262
candidates scored maximum grade point average GPA-5 this year.

Among the examinees, 8,58,101 students have been successful in the HSC and
equivalent examinations, he added.

The minister said a total of 12,88,757 students including 6,80,884 females
from 8,945 educational institutions appeared in this year’s HSC and
equivalent examinations.

A total of 11,83,686 examinees appeared in the HSC and equivalent
examinations last year, he added.
