Jute cultivation progressing fast in Netrakona

NETRAKONA, April 17, 2021 (BSS) – Cultivation of jute in the current Kharif-1 season is progressing fast in the district.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said, a target was fixed to cultivate jute on 4,930 hectors of land in the district with a plan to produce 43,987 bells of jute this season.

Of the total targeted land, 230 hectors of land would be brought under olitorious variety of jute, 820 hectors of land under capsularies variety of jute, 3450 hectors of land under Knaf variety of jute and 430 hectors of land would be brought under Mesta variety of jute.

Meanwhile, the jute cultivators could cultivate 2000 hectors of land under the jute cultivation in the ten upazilas of the district, deputy director of DAE Netrakona Habibur Rahman said, adding that if the weather condition remains favorable, the cultivators would be able to cultivate jute in the rest of the targeted lands within the next fortnight.

Replying to a question, the deputy director said, crops specialists and field-level officials of the DAE continued rendering their field-level service to let the jute cultivators know about the modern methods of jute cultivation through using latest technologies for producing improved quality jute fibers and reducing production cost.

By this time, at the directives of the government, different state-run agencies including BADC and BCIC also continued supplying of improved quality jute seed and fertilizers and other agricultural equipment to the farmers for helping them to run jute cultivation network properly, he added.
