8 die, 305 more test positive for COVID-19 in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, April 16, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 305 people have been tested positive for coronavirus after testing 1,142 samples in the last 24 hours at seven COVID-19 laboratories in the district at the infection rate of 26.71 percent.

Among the infected patients, 271 are from Chattogram city and 34 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said.

Meanwhile, a total of eight patients died in the last 24 hours only in Chattogram district. This is the second highest death in a single day in the district since the onset of the corona pandemic in the country.

The total number of deaths due to Covid-19 in Chattogram reached 445, Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram, told BSS today.

Among the reported fatalities, 329 were the residents of the port city and the rest 116 were from different upazilas of the district, he added.

The number of COVID-19 cases speedily rose to 46,380 in Chattogram district where the infection and causality rate rising hurriedly again in recent weeks, the health official continued.

“The infection rate is showing a quickly rising trend again and recovery rate declining continually in the district in recent weeks,” Focal Person of COVID-19 Dr Rabbi, told BSS today with mentioning that among the total 46,380 coronavirus infected persons, 37,215 are the residents of the port city and the rest 9,165 are the inhabitants of different upazilas of the district.

“The number of cured patients from the lethal virus has reached at 35,135 in the district with recovery of 92 more patients on Thursday,” he said, adding that the percentage of recovery rate stands at 75.75.

A total of 1,385 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here, the health official mentioned.
