DHAKA, April 15, 2021 (BSS) – The namaj-e-janaza of former law minister, Supreme Court Lawyers Association president and Awami League Presidium member Advocate Abdul Matin Khosru was held on the Supreme Court premises this morning.
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossen, Justices from Supreme Court Appellate and high court division, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister M Tajul Islam, Attorney General AM Amin Uddin, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazley Nur Taposh, Awami League joint general secretary Mahbubl Alam Hanif MP, BNP joint secretary general and former general secretary of Supreme Court Lawyers Association AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Lawyers Association former and incumbent leaders, ruling party leaders, different political party leaders, lawyers and people from different professionals also took part in the namaj-e janaza.
Supreme Court Lawyers Association secretary Barrister M Ruhul Kuddus Kazal, who moderated the Janaza, highlighted various side of Khosru’s colourful working life. Abdul Monem Wasif, Abul Matin Khosru’s only son, also sought doa from the people for his father’s eternal peace.
After the namaj-e-janaza, state guard of honour was also awarded to valiant freedom fighter Abdul Matin. Wreaths were also placed on behalf of various persons and organisations at the coffin of Abdul Matin Khosru, including President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossen, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Attorney General Office, Supreme Court Lawyers Association, Bangladesh Awami League, Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad and Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi forum.
Earlier, his first namaj-e-janaza was held on Alia Madrasha premises at Bakshibazar in the city.
He will be buried at his family graveyard at Mirpur village at 4 pm after namaj-e-janazas at Cumilla’s Burichang and Brahmanpara upazilas after Johr prayers.
On April 14, Abdul Matin Khosru died at the age of 71 while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH). He left behind wife, a son, a daughter, huge relatives and well wishers to mourn his death.
The judicial activities at the apex court have been postponed due to the death of Khosru, who was elected as the president of Supreme Court Lawyers Association on March 13. Advocate Khosru became top national leader in the politics from the grass root level.
Abdul Matin Khosru had been elected parliament members for five times from Cumilla-5 (Burichang-Brahmanpara) constituency and he was the member of parliament of the seat till his death.
Advocate Khosru involved in law profession at Cumilla Judge Court in 1978. He had been practised regularly at Bangladesh Supreme Court since 1982 and it was continued till his death.
He became law minister of the incumbent Awami League government during 1996 to 2001 period. He was a law secretary of the Awami League for long time.
He was elected as the only member of the parliament of the Awami League from Cumilla in 1991. He became law minister after being elected as MP for 2nd times from Awami League in 1996.
Abdul Matin Khosru played pivotal role in annulling Indemnity Ordinance in the parliament which was a barrier to the trial of Bangabandhu Shiekh Mujibur Rahman’s murder case.
Abdul Matin Khosru was born on February 12 in 1950 at Mirpur village under Brahmanpara upazila of Cumilla of the then East Pakistan. His father’s name is M Abdul Maleque and mother’s name is Jahanara Begum.
He was elected Cumilla Dakshin district Awami League member secretary in 1992. He was elected as the member of parliament in 1991,1996,2008,2014 and 2018.
Khosru was also chairman of the parliamentary standing committee of the Ministry of Law, Justice and parliamentary Affairs.
He had participated in the war of Independence in 1971.
President, Prime Minister, member of the cabinets, Chief Justice, political party members condoled the death of the noted lawmaker.
