Concerted efforts stressed to end violence against children

RAJSHAHI, July 19, 2018 (BSS) – Concerted efforts of both and government
and non-government entities can be the crucial means of ending all sorts of
violence especially physical and mental against children.

Social responsibility and political will is very much important to
ensure the fundamental rights of the children. The children must be freed
from all sorts of violation, repression and deprivation for building a
healthy and knowledge-based future generation.

The views were expressed at a roundtable titled “Way-out of Resisting
Violence against Children” at Parjatan Motel conference hall in the city
today. Ladies Organisation for Social Welfare (LOFS) and World Vision
Bangladesh jointly organised the discussion.

Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Aminul Islam addressed the
meeting as the chief guest with Jamal Uddin, regional advocacy and
communication coordinator of World Vision, in the chair.

District Women Affairs Officer Shirin Akhter, Assistant Deputy
Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Shirin Akhter Jahan, Assistant
Programme Manager of World Vision Bimol James Costa and Executive Director of
LOFS Shahnaj Parveeni also spoke on the occasion.

Among others, Local unit coordinator of Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services
Trust Advocate Samina Begum and Professor Mustafizur Rahman from Department
of Anthropology of Rajshahi University took part in the open discussion.

During his concept paper presentation, Advocate Shahinul Haque Moon said
physical and mental development of children couldn’t be possible until they
were protected from violence and deprivation. LOFS Vice-president Azizur
Rahman moderated the discussion.

The chief guest said, “Children should be protected from all sorts of
labour, violence, repression and oppression so that they could make
themselves competent enough to serve the nation.”

He also emphasised the need for ensuring children’s safety and security
and stopping early marriage for the greater national interest.
