8 special parcel trains to ply in lockdown: Sujan

DHAKA, April 13, 2021 (BSS) – Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan today said that eight special parcel trains will run from tomorrow to facilitate transportation of all types of agricultural goods in the weeklong lockdown , set to be enforced by the government to prevent the sharp surge of COVID-19 pandemic on Wednesday.

“Bangladesh Railway has decided to run special trains so that farmers can easily get agricultural products during the lockdown, and people of the country gets the uninterrupted supply of the daily essential commodities,” Sujan said this at a press briefing at Railway Bhaban today, said a press release.

“ Despite the Covid-19 pandemic life and livelihood must be continued following health safety guidelines and other rules, set by the government thus special parcel trains will run throughout the country carrying essential products and food items,” he added.

“ In the past Bangladesh Railways had operated parcel trains including Mango Special Train, Cattle Train in need of time.Currently oil, fertilizer and other goods are being transported…,” the minister said.

During the briefing, the minister stated that the goods train on Dhaka-Sylhet route will leave Dhaka at 3.30 pm and reach Sylhet at 2.30 am.

A train will leave Sylhet at 7.45 am and reach Dhaka at 6.30 pm.

The goods train on the Chittagong-Sarishabari route will leave Chittagong at 3 pm and reach Sarishabari at 4.30 am. Simultaneously, a train will leave Sarishabari at 5.30 am and reach Chittagong at 6.40 pm.

The train on the Khulna-Chilahati route will leave Khulna at 3:30 pm, will reach Chilahati at 2:30 am on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday,.

The goods train will leave Chilahati at 3:30 pm and will reach Khulna at 2:30 am.

On Saturday, Monday and Wednesday, a train will run from FF Sirajul Islam Station and the train will on its way back leave FF Sirajul Islam station at 1 pm and reach Dhaka at 3 am.

On Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday one train will leave Dhaka at 6 am and will reach FF Sirajul Islam station at 8:30 pm.

In the case of transportation of agricultural products such as vegetables, local fruits and other agricultural products in the special trains, there will be no charges only 25 per cent (rebate) on the basic fare.

Secretary at the Ministry of Railways Mohammad Selim Reza, Director General of Railways Dhirendranath Majumder and Additional Director General of Operations Sardar Shahadat Ali were present at the briefing.
