15,991 more get second dose of COVID-19 vaccine in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 11, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 15,991 more citizens were inoculated with the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine today raising the number of second dose recipients to 38,509 in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the total of 38,509 second dose recipient citizens, including 28,241 male and 10,268 female of the division, previously got the first dose of the vaccine at least two months ago.

“Earlier, inoculation of the COVID-19 vaccine as the second dose began on Thursday alongside continuation of the first dose in all eight districts of the division,” Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Ahad Ali told BSS.

The district-wise break-up of the second dose recipient 38,509 citizens stands at 7,174 in Rangpur, 5,150 in Panchagarh, 5,454 in Nilphamari, 1,799 Lalmonirhat, 3,509 Kurigram, 3,673 in Thakurgaon, 7,918 in Dinajpur and 3,832 in Gaibandha of the division.

Meanwhile, a total 2,241 registered citizens, including 1,284 male and 957 female, were inoculated with the first dose of the jabs today in the division.

“The total number of citizens who got the first dose of the vaccine now rose to 5,78,224, including 3,46,846 male and 2,31,378 female, with inoculation of more 2,241 people today in the division,” Dr Ali said.

The district-wise break-up of the first dose recipient 5,78,224 citizens stands at 1,65,955 in Rangpur, 42,710 in Panchagarh, 73,786 in Nilphamari, 36,400 in Lalmonirhat, 44,945 in Kurigram, 47,901 in Thakurgaon, 1,05,830 in Dinajpur and 60,697 in Gaibandha.

After taking the second dose today at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH) cantonment, noted educationist professor Mohammad shah Alam and his wife Halima Khatun told BSS that they are feeling quite normal without side effects.

They thanked the RpMCH authorities for conducting the first and second dose of the vaccination programme simultaneously in an orderly manner.

“I took the second dose today after taking the first dose on February 11 last,” said Professor Alam, adding that everyone should take the vaccine twice and abide by the health directives to strengthen immunity and remain safe from coronavirus infection.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged everyone to abide by the health directives and wear masks even after taking the first and second doses of the vaccine.
