GAIBANDHA, April 11, 2021 (BSS) – A special 40-day employment generation programme of the government for the hardcore and the seasonal unemployed people has begun in all the seven upazilas of the district.
District Relief and Rehabilitation office sources said 28, 916 day and farm laborers of the district had been brought under the programme of which objective is to assist the poor in overcoming poverty and job crisis during lean period.
They said 4402 people of Sadar upazila, 5631 in Sundarganj upazila, 3899 in Sadullapur upazila, 2917 in Palashbari upazila, 5751 in Gobindaganj upazila, 3761 in Saghata upazila and 2555 in Fulchhari upazila came under the initiative.
All the day and farm laborers have been engaged in implementing different development projects in rural areas of the district.
The project works include construction and reconstruction of katcha roads, bridges, culverts, earth filling and excavation and re excavation of derelict ponds and canals and removing water hyacinth from different water bodies, sources said.
Each of the workers would get Tk 200 per day as wage under the programme that would continue in the upazilas till fully harvesting the Boro paddy in the district, sources said.
The laborers started their development works in Gobindaganj upzila on Saturday like other six upazilas.
UNO Abu Sayeed formally inaugurated the work at Kamardaha union through cutting soil with spade as the chief guest.
