14 jailed for drug addiction

RAJSHAHI, July 19, 2018 (BSS) -Two separate mobile courts on Wednesday sentenced 14 persons to different terms jail on charge of taking drugs and drug trading.

Earlier, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested 18 alleged drug addicts conducting three separate drives in Chapainawabgonj and Natore districts, said RAB officials.

Later the arrested were produced before the concerned mobile courts.

The courts led by Executive Magistrates Saiful Islam and Abdul Kader awarded different terms jail to 14 of the arrested persons. Three of the detained persons were fined Taka 12,000.

A regular case was lodged against them.

RAB said the elite force also seized bear cans, five ample drug-injections, 0.840 grams of ganja, 900 liters of country-made liquor and some other drugs-taking instrument.

Saiful Islam, assistant superintendent of police working with the RAB, said different courts in the districts have sent more than 542 drug addicts to jail in the last 22 days.
