DHAKA, April 07, 2021 (BSS) – Ekushey Padak recipient and Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artiste Indramohan Rajbongshi passed away today while undergoing treatment at a city hospital.
He breathed his last at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (BSMMUH) at 10:25 am at the age of 75. Earlier, the eminent folk singer had tested positive for COVID-19.
According to Wikipedia, Indramohan was an eminent folk singer. In the early 1950s, He learnt music under his grandfather, Krishna Das Rajbongshi.
Involved with Jatra, Palagaan, Nazrul Sangeet and folk songs, he was admitted to the Bulbul Lalitakala Academy in Nazrul song in the late 1960s and completed a five-year course.
In 1963, Indramohan started to learn folk songs under Hafizur Rahman. He joined the Government College of Music in 1974.
In 1971, Indramohan took part in Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra. In 1998, he established a folk organisation, Bangladesh Lok Sangeet Parishad (Folk Song Council), which works to practice, preserve, promote and do research on folk songs.
He wrote about 100 folk songs for children, including songs on the country’s Liberation War and Language Movement.
Indramohan received his Certificate of World Master from Kim Sung Oak, chairperson of The Association of World Masters for the Exchange of Arts and Culture.
