Practical steps to be taken in power sector: Dr Tawfiq

DHAKA, March 27, 2021 (BSS) – Prime Minister’s Energy Advisor Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury Bir Bikram today said the power sector would have to take practical steps for increasing number of energy auditing.

“We have to hear more and more from industries what they want and need. We have to go to them and understand their problems. How to increase number of energy auditing,” he told this at a virtual seminar as the chief guest.

Energy and Power Division organized the virtual seminar on “Energy Saving Possibilities in the Garment and Textile Sector” with its editor Mollah Amjad Hossain moderated.

The advisor said the garment industry could use the zero waste method like a dream city, adding, “You can visit to see the dream city. Biogas is being produced there using human waste. In this way, the garment industry can also benefit.”

BGMEA President Dr Rubana Haque, SREDA chairman Dr Mohammad Alauddin, Energy Expert Professor Dr Nurul Islam, Professor Dr Md Zahurul Haque from BUET, BGMEA director Asif Ibrahim, chief Financial officer of IDCOL Nazmul Haque, member of SREDA Farzana Momtaj, senior advisor of GiZ Shafiqul Alam also delivered their speeches in the seminar.

Experts said about 30 per cent of electricity is being used in the textile and garment sector. If efficient equipment is ensured in the sector, it is possible to reduce the consumption of electricity to 17.6 percent.
