DHAKA, July 17, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh Bank (BB) Executive Director SM Rabiul Hassan today said there is no scope for pilfering gold from the vault of the central bank as it has ensured full proof security in this regard.

“The report against the BB vault is not true and realistic at all. Bangladesh Bank has taken three- or four-tier security measures for its vault. In addition, it installed CCTV for ensuring full security of the
vault,” he told journalists at a press briefing at the central bank’s headquarters here in the evening.

Bangladesh bank arranged the press briefing to present its stance against a report titled ‘Bangladesh Banker Vault-a Vuture Kandho’ published in a
vernacular daily today.

General Manager of the BB’s Communications and Publications Department GM Abul Kalam Azad, General Manager of the Currency Management Department Sultan Masud Ahmed and Currency Officer (GM) Awlad Hossain Chowdhury were, among
others, present at the press briefing.

Rabiul Hassain said no one allows entering into the vault without permission. “Even BB governor or deputy governors must take pass if they want to visit the vault.”

Awlad Hossain said the purity of the gold measured by the customs detectives was 40 percent, but it was recorded 80 percent due to the similarity between the number 4 in Bangla and 8 in English.

A registered goldsmith from Shokh Jewellers made the clerical mistake, he claimed.
