Bangabandhu’s policy a benchmark of today’s success in agriculture: Dr Razzaque

DHAKA, March 19, 2021 (BSS) – Recalling the contribution of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to agriculture, Agriculture Minister Dr M Abdur Razzaque today said that Bangabandhu made the foundation of the agriculture and that’s why the country now has achieved tremendous success in the agriculture sector.

“Bangladesh now has become the role model in the world due to the agriculture policy once undertaken by Bangabandhu during his regime,” he told a function on ‘Mujib Borshe Sataghanta Mujib Charcha’ virtually held at Meherpur on Thursday night.

After the independence, Dr Razzaque said Bangabandhu launched the green revolution in the country to ensure food security and overall development of the country.

Modern cultivation system, extension of irrigation facilities and using of quality seeds were initiated by Bangabandhu to increase production, he told the function organized by Meherpur district administration.

Bangabandhu had constructed a foundation of agriculture development by bringing tractors, irrigation machines from abroad and gave importance on research for innovating new technologies and high yielding crop varieties.

At the same time, Bangabandhu had established different organizations including Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council, gave first class status to the agriculturists, he said.

So, Bangladesh now has achieved remarkable success in food security and agriculture under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina pursuing the policy accommodate by Bangabandhu, the minister added.

State Minster for Public Administration Farhad Hossen who also a principal advisor of ‘Mujib Borshe Sataghanta Mujib Charcha’ spoke the function as the special guest.

Chaired by Meherpur Deputy Commissioner Dr Mohammad Munsur Alam Khan, the programme also was addressed, among others, by former lawmaker M Mokbul Hossen, Gangni upazila chairman and district Awami League general secretary M A Khaleque, district AL joint secretary Ibrahim Shahin and deputy director of agricultural extension department Shawpan Kumar Kha.
