Tk438cr project taken to cultivate fallow land: Razzaque

DHAKA, March 13, 2021 (BSS) – Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzak today said that the government has undertaken a project involving Taka 438 crore to cultivate fallow land across the country as per the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to tackle food crisis amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Through this project, family nutrition garden will be established in the yard and fallow land. As a result, food production will increase further,” he said this while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the annual general meeting of the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) Krishibid Samiti at Bangabandhu International Conference Center here today, said a press release.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is an agro-friendly and farmer-friendly. Under her dynamic leadership, the government is working relentlessly with utmost importance on agriculture,” he added.

The minister lauded the role of the present government in taking prudent action plans regarding the development of the agricultural sector and said, “We have already gained self-sufficiency in food. Now, we are working for ensuring safe and nutritious food for all,” he said adding that the strong role of the agriculturists will help achieve the goal.”

Calling on the officials of BADC to play a stronger role in the production and distribution of seeds of new varieties of crops, the agriculture minister further said that, “Our researchers and scientists have already invented many advanced varieties and technologies of crops. Seeds of these varieties need to be produced quickly and distributed at the farmer level.”

Sajjadul Hasan, Chairman of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Mohammad Mesbahul Islam, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Dr Amitabh Sarkar, Chairman, BADC and Dr Nazrul Islam, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Finance were present as special guests on the occasion.

BAPC Krishibid Samiti president Ripon Kumar Mandal presided over the function, while general secretary Pradeep Chandra Dey and organizing secretary Sanjay Roy spoke, among others.

Md Azim Uddin presented the keynote address on the role of BADC agriculturists in seed and fertilizer management.

The general meeting was attended by more than three hundred agronomists of BADC working across the country.
