Nahid for skill based education to create employment opportunities

DHAKA, July 15, 2018 (BSS) – Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today laid
emphasis on skill based education to create employment opportunities through
developing human resources.

“We are now formulating the education curriculum in line with the demand of
job market to remove unemployment problems in the country,” he told a seminar
on ‘Skills change lives and increase social dignity’ in the conference room
of National Skills Development Council (NSDC) here.

The seminar was organized by NSDC on the occasion of the World Youth Skills
Day-2018 to create awareness among young generation.

Secretary of Technical and Madrasah Education Division Md Alamgir and
senior officials of different organizations concerned, among others,
addressed the seminar with Chief Executive Officer of NSDC ABM Khorshed Alam
in the chair.

Nahid said effective plans should be taken to promote technical education
to achieve the targets of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

“We have attached top priority to expansion of technical and vocational
education to ensure better access of students to job markets,” he added.

Nahid said the government has set a target of 30 percent enrolment in
technical education by 2030 aiming to transform Bangladesh into an
economically developed country.

“In 2009, there was only one percent student enrolment in the technical
education while the current enrolment is 14 percent,” he added.

“To maximize the benefit of using ICT in a classroom, we need a bunch of
trained, motivated and technology-friendly teachers who will make the whole
process effective and successful,” the minister added.

“The government has taken various ICT programmes to ensure quality of
education. In a technology-based globalised world, quality education is
crucial for any country. The government has realised the fact and executed
its plans accordingly,” Nahid added.

The World Youth Skills Day-2018 was observed today across the country as
elsewhere in the world aiming to promote skill based education for developing
human resources through utilizing potentiality of young population.

An elaborate programme has been taken to highlight the significance of the
Day.

Expressing solidarity with United Nations (UN), the World Skill
International has fixed the theme of the day as “Skills Change Lives”.

World Skills International is very proud to be part of a global
recognition and promotion of World Youth Skills Day. The United Nations, at
its General Assembly in November 2014, declared July 15 as World Youth Skills
Day.
