JS body on industries meeting held

DHAKA, Feb 25, 2021 (BSS) – The eighth meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Industries was held on Thursday at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with committee chairman Amir Hossain Amu in the chair.

Committee members Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, State Minister Kamal Ahmed Majumder, AKM Fazlul Haque, Abu Reza Muhammad Nejamuddin, Mohammad Shahiduzzaman, Kajim Uddin Ahmmed and shafiul Islam joined the meeting, said an official press release.

The meeting had an elaborate discussion on “The Iodized Salt Bill, 2021”, overall issues of sugar industry and in which banks the money received as security deposit from the dealers of urea fertilizer factories under BCIC has been deposited in the amount of Tk 111.85 crore.

The committee discussed the “Iodized Salt Bill, 2021” earlier in the meeting and after some amendments, the committee recommended that the bill be submitted to the Parliament in an amended form for passage.

The committee recommended to the ministry to get the approval of the ministry for procurement of all the departments under the ministry of industry and to procure equipment from all the factories in Europe, America and Japan as well as to procure spare parts of the same company.

Besides, the committee recommended to take necessary steps to reopen the closed sugar mills, uncover the root cause of losses in the sugar industry, lay off unnecessary manpower and motivate trade union officials and employees as well as other officials and employees.

Secretary of the Ministry of Industries, Joint Secretary of the legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Department, heads of various agencies, concerned officials of the Ministry of Industries and Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, among others, joined the meeting.
