Ratha Yatra festival begins in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, July 14, 2018 (BSS)- The nine-day Ratha Yatra (journey of
chariot), one of the major festivals of the Hindu community, began today in
Chattogram city amid religious fervour and festivity.

The chariot of Sree lord Jagannat (other name of Lord Krishna) has started
the journey from ISKAN temple at city’s Probartak Sanga and reached
Nandankanon after parading several important city streets.

International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKON) organized the
function while City Mayor A J M Nasir Uddin inaugurated it at Probartak
crossing this afternoon.

Hundreds of Hindu devotees irrespective of all ages including theologians,
hermits participated in the journey and the pulling of rope function which
was witnessed by onlookers and passers-by.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Nasir Uddin said Bangladesh is a country
of Communal Harmony which bears the testimony of love between people of
inter-community.

He said the member of the Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist and Christian
communities have been living here from time immemorial with amity and peace.

He said the government is determined to work for the welfare of the people
of all religions living in the country.

“Religion always works for peace and prosperity in the country eliminating
terrorism, extremism and fundamentalism,” the city mayor added.
