Farmers urged to farm BARI Potato-41 and 53 to get desired output

GAIBANDHA Feb, 18 2021(BSS)- Speakers here today urged the farmers to farm Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI) released improved varieties-BARI Potato 41 and Potato 53 on their sandy char land in large Scale to get desired output against the crop and to earn economic profit as well.

“As the demand of food is increasing with the rise of country’s populations fast, there is no alternative to boost production of food to meet its demand applying the latest agri-technologies during the age of globalization”, they said.

They made the comments while addressing a ‘Field Day’ on the harvest of BARI potato 41, and potato 53 on the char land at Kunderpara under Kamarjani union of Sadar upazila in the district this noon.

Dr Abdullah Al-Mahmud, Principal Scientific Officer (PSO) of On Farm Research Division (OFRD), Gaibandha Office set up by BARI addressed the function as chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Mahmud said the scientists of the office are motivating the farmers to farm BARI released 15 improved varieties including BARI Potato-41 and BARI Potato-53 on the char land of five upazilas in the district to help the growers get desired output against the varieties and help them earn economic profit to change their socio economic condition as well.

To inspire the farmers of chars and Brahmaputra river basin areas of the district a number of demonstration plots of BARI Potato-41 and BARI Potato-53 have been set up at different chars including Kunder Para one of the district during the current season.

After harvesting of the variety the farmers are so much happy and satisfied to get desired yield against the crop as 28 tons of BARI Potato-41 and BARI Potato-53 were produced on a hectare of land.

To see the produces the other farmers of the chars gave their commitment to farm it on the char land in coming season as per the advices of the scientists of the OFRD.

A large number of farmers coming from neighbouring chars of the upazila and the scientists of OFRD attended the function.
